Marmite Chicken Recipe

Marmite is made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing, and is suitable for vegetarian. Marmite is traditionally eaten as a savory spread on bread, toast, and biscuits. Owing to its concentrated taste it is usually spread thinly with butter or margarine.

But today, Marmite is used on cooking dishes and there are lots of recipes on how to blend Marmite with other foodstuffs. Due to the savory flavor of marmite sauce, it will never fail to amaze people who have tasted the dish. Here is a Marmite Chicken Recipe.

Ingredients:

1 cup oil for deep frying

2 chicken thighs, about 9 oz, cut into pieces

Marinade:

1 teaspoon light soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 tablespoon corn flour

Sauce:

2 tablespoons Marmite yeast extract

1 tablespoon maltose

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon light soy sauce

Dash of pepper and chicken stock granules, 0.5 cup water

Method:

1. Mix chicken with marinade and marinate for 1 hour. Deep fry in hot oil for 2 minutes or until cooked. Dish and drain

2. Leave 1 tablespoon oil in wok, pour in sauce and cook at medium heat until thick. Put in fried chicken and mix well. Dish up and serve

The same cooking method can be applied to pork and shrimps. You can just substitute the chicken with pork spareribs or shrimps, and follow the same cooking ingredients and method. However, if you are using shrimps, you can skip the marinade step, as there is no need to marinade shrimps.
